— DAY 2 —
OLD MILITARY ROAD, CAIRNGORMS NATIONAL PARK & WHISKY TRAIL
Leave Edinburgh north towards the Cairngorms National Park. Soon you will join the Old Military Road taking you over seemingly endless scenic roads and onto Scotland's highest mountain pass.
Later drive past the summer residence of the British royal family at Balmoral and visit one of the many castles in the region. Next on your itinerary will be the Scottish Whisky Trail dotted with distilleries.
The name wakes expectations. Make a sacrifice: take only a sample for the evening and enjoy more of the spectacular roads in Scotland. If you're interested include a guided tour at a Scottish Whisky Distillery.
The capital of the Scottish Highlands — Inverness will be your base for the night. Have a good dinner and zip your whisky sample in front of the fireplace.
— DAY 3 —
LEG 1 - NC500 ROUTE
LOCH NESS & EILEAN CASTLE
Drive the first official leg of the iconic North Coast 500 Route. Your way will take you along the shores of Loch Ness deep into the Scottish Highlands. At the remains of Urghurt Castle you have the opportunity to look out for the legendary Loch Ness Monster.
Visit the most iconic building in Scotland: Eilean Donan Castle. It might look familiar from one of the latest James Bond movies. But even long before that it has graced countless postcards.
The famous road to Applecross (also known as Bealach Na Ba Pass) is optional since the road is very narrow and can get relatively busy. We do not recommend the road for unexperienced drivers.
Whatever you decide, the bridge connecting the Highlands with the Isle of Skye will be your gateway to reach your hotel. Dinner is waiting and with a bit of luck you still have a zip of your Whisky sample from the other day.
— DAY 4 OPTIONAL DRIVE —
LEG 2 - NC500 ROUTE
ISLE OF SKYE
The largest and northernmost of the major Inner Hebrides island truly owns some of Scotland's most iconic landscapes that enchant with staggering mountain ranges, miles of extremely dramatic coastlines, waterfalls and a captivating history.
Stop at the look-out of the Mealt Falls. Here the waterfall prominently plunges from the cliffs right into the sea, framed by the eccentric Kilt Rock formation.
Later continue on the North Coast 500 Route to find yourself on the famous stretch that also McLaren uses in their driving tours.
At a scenic minor road which winds along the northern shore of Upper Loch Torridon sits your hotel. Enjoy an authentic Scottish dinner and go to bed early.
— DAY 5 OPTIONAL DRIVE —
LEG 3 - NC500 ROUTE
PURE DRIVING PLEASURE
The final leg of the North Coast Route is perhaps also the most scenic part of the entire NC500 Route and without any distractions. There's nothing quite like the freedom of the long open road. Let the scenery of today's drive speak for itself.
Never-ending back roads, wide meandering country tracks and beautiful bends through some of Scotland's finest coastal scenery, all the way up north to the Kylesku bridge. The bridge marks the most northern point we include on this NC500 Driving Tour. Beyond this point the route is getting narrow and uneventful and we don't want to waste your time.
Instead we loop you back to Inverness over what is arguably one of the most scenic motorways in the world.
— DAY 6 —
ANCIENT VOLCANO CRATER DRIVE AT GLEN COE
Today drive past Fort William right through the crater of an ancient volcano. The magnificence of the region are the many small natural waterfalls and mountains nestled in a sometimes moonlike landscape. Glen Coe truly is one of the most famous driving grounds in Scotland.
Towering mountains loom overhead as you wind your way through this majestic glen to enjoy lunch at one of Scotlands' most iconic castle hotels near Ben Navis; Scotland's highest mountain.
Before you head back into Edinburgh we highly recommend a visit to the iconic Stirling Castle — one of the largest and most important castles in Scotland, both historically and architecturally. On your way back to Edinburgh you’ll pass The Kelpies, the famous horse sculptures by Andy Scott.
Back to your hotel we will collect the car from you and you can spend the evening at leisure.
