ROMANIA SUPCERCAR DRIVING TOUR – TRANSFĂGĂRĂȘAN, TRANSALPINA, TRANSYLVANIA & CASTLES
A private luxury supercar driving tour across Romania’s Carpathian Mountains, built around two of Europe’s most dramatic high roads: the Transfăgărășan and the Transalpina. Starting and ending in Bucharest, this journey combines world-class mountain driving with medieval towns, legendary castles, and the untamed landscapes of Transylvania.
In 2009, Top Gear famously described the Transfăgărășan as “the world’s ultimate driving road,” ranking it above Italy’s Stelvio Pass. Less publicised but equally rewarding, the Transalpina climbs higher and runs longer, offering vast open scenery and a completely different driving rhythm. This tour links both roads into one coherent, carefully paced experience.
Romania’s Great Mountain Roads — Driven Properly.

Sample Itinerary:
DAY 1 · ARRIVAL IN BUCHAREST → CURTEA DE ARGEȘ
Arrive at Bucharest Airport, where your supercar or luxury SUV is handed over directly upon arrival. After a short personal briefing and handover of your pre-programmed GPS and printed road book, you set off immediately toward the foothills of the Carpathians.
The drive leads west to Curtea de Argeș, a historic town at the gateway to the Făgăraș Mountains, where you’ll spend the night. This positioning allows for an early start the following morning and a quieter, more immersive experience on Romania’s most famous high road.
DAY 2 · TRANSFĂGĂRĂȘAN HIGH ROAD (EARLY MORNING DRIVE)
An early start puts you on the Transfăgărășan Highway at its best — before traffic builds and while the mountains are still calm. Climbing through the Făgăraș Mountains, this legendary 91 km (57 mi) road rises to 2,042 m (6,699 ft), delivering tunnels, lakes, sweeping curves, and dramatic hairpins.
Built between 1970 and 1974 under Nicolae Ceaușescu, the Transfăgărășan remains one of Europe’s most spectacular drives — famously described by Top Gear in 2009 as “the world’s ultimate driving road.”
By late afternoon, descend into Transylvania and arrive in Sibiu, a beautifully preserved UNESCO-listed town, where the evening is yours to explore at a relaxed pace.
DAY 3 · TRANSALPINA HIGH ROAD
Depart Sibiu heading south toward the Transalpina, Romania’s highest and longest paved road. Crossing the Parâng Mountains, the route reaches its highest point at Urdele Pass, with long open stretches above the tree line and expansive views in every direction.
Covering 148 km (90 mi), including 20 km above 2,000 m, the Transalpina offers a calmer, more flowing counterpart to the Transfăgărășan. In the afternoon, visit an open-air museum showcasing traditional mountain life before arriving at a hotel quietly set beside a park.
DAY 4 · TRANSYLVANIA & CASTLES
Drive through Transylvania’s forested countryside, following winding roads through valleys shaped by Romanian, Hungarian, Saxon, and Roma cultures. The route leads to Bran Castle, one of the world’s most famous fortresses, dramatically set beneath the Carpathian Mountains and long associated with Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
The day blends scenic driving with history and folklore, revealing the region’s distinctive atmosphere.
DAY 5 · WALLACHIA & PELEȘ CASTLE
Follow historic mountain roads linking Transylvania and Wallachia to reach Peleș Castle, the former royal residence of Romania. This Neo-Renaissance masterpiece was the first palace in Europe to feature electricity and central heating, powered by its own plant.
After visiting the castle, enjoy lunch at a nearby estate before taking a lesser-known back road across a high mountain plateau, revealing some of the region’s most expansive views. Return to Bucharest in the late afternoon.
DAY 6 · DEPARTURE
Private transfer to the airport or train station for your onward journey.

TURDA SALT MINE (SALINA TURDA) Descend into one of the world’s most extraordinary underground attractions.
Venture deep beneath the surface to Salina Turda, Romania’s most celebrated salt mine and one of Europe’s most remarkable subterranean sights.
Over centuries, it has been shaped into towering salt chambers, sculpted walls, and a calm, otherworldly atmosphere. As you descend, the air turns cooler and noticeably fresh. Inside, illuminated galleries and cavernous halls frame an underground lake and a setting unlike anything above ground.

UNESCO TOWN OF SIBIU & CORVIN CASTLE Corvin Castle’s dramatic entrance, followed by Sibiu’s UNESCO-listed Old Town squares.

This magnificent fortress, counted among Europe's grandest castles, grants entrance solely through a precarious, slender wooden bridge. Experience the thrill of crossing this bridge and immerse yourself in the castle's rich history.
Afterward, venture into the vibrant heart of Sibiu, where the historic center awaits your exploration. This remarkable ensemble of squares, recognized and safeguarded by the UNESCO World Heritage, unveils a tapestry of architectural wonders and cultural treasures.
