Day 3 ■ TRANS ALPINA ROAD DRIVE

Drive south from Sibiu towards another impressive road, the TransAlpina Highway, featuring the winding Urdele Pass at its highest point. The views along the way are breathtaking, and the driving experience is endlessly exciting. This spectacular high road covers an ultra-scenic 148 kilometers (90 miles), with approximately 20 kilometers (12 miles) above 2000 meters (6561 ft) altitude, crossing the Parang Mountains.

Although it runs parallel to the famous TransFagarasan, the TransAlpina is often overlooked since the British TV program TopGear didn't promote it when they visited the region, possibly because the road was still being asphalted during their shoot.

Visit the open-air museum to learn about the history and life in the Fagarasan Mountains a century ago. Later in the afternoon, arrive at your hotel quietly nestled next to a park.
