LEG 1 - GERMAN ALPINE ROAD TO SALZBURG OR LAKE FUSCHL

Leave Munich via a stretch of German Autobahn. Soon you will reach Germany's oldest holiday route — this will be your first leg of the scenic German Alpine Road in Bavaria running parallel to the Austrian border. Stop at "Eagle's Nest" — Hitler's former retreat and visit the WWII documentation centre at Obersalzberg to educate yourself about the dark past of this beautiful region.

Visit the 900-year-old Hohenwerfen Castle surrounded by an extraordinary landscape before you continue on your scenic route to stop every now and then for a number of fantastic view-points and lakes. The panorama road through the Berchtesgaden Alps will be your gateway to stay:

A — in the heart of the baroque town of Salzburg in Austria. Just in time for a nice evening walk through the Old Town.

B — at the shores of the crystal-clear Lake Fuschl. Nestled in Austria’s "Sound of Music" Salzkammergut region.

MAJESTIC GROSSGLOCKNER

HIGH ALPINE ROAD

Arrive to the Austrian Tyrol and get ready to experience one of the major tourist attractions in Austria:

The majestic Grossglockner Alpine Road — with a spectacular 48 kilometres and 36 turns wiggling around the pyramid-shaped Grossglockner mountain. On 2,504 m (8,215 ft) you will enjoy views over the longest glacier in the Eastern Alps — the "Pasterze" and a spectacular panorama into the Austrian alpine landscape with the snow covered mountains.

On the other side of this fantastic mountain road lays the town of Lienz; where you will be based for the night. Not only known for its alpine chic.  With more than 2000 sun hours per year also Austria’s sunniest city.

— DAY 4 —

FELBERTAUERN PASS ROAD

OR GROSSGLOCKNER PASS

Wake up to the fresh air of the Alps and enjoy the excellent breakfast at your hotel. Another exciting day within the pristine alpine landscapes of the Austrian Tyrol is ahead of you. Today you will have the agony of choice between two scenic tours:

A — Drive the Grossglockner Pass in the opposite direction to get a different perspective.

B — The fast sweeping roads of the Hohe Tauern valley and add the best stretch of the German Alpine Road.

Both tours will take you past the spectacular 360 meters high Krimml Waterfalls and over the elegant turns of the Gerlos Panorama Road gently embedded into the terrain over 69 varied kilometres to the town of Seefeld for the last leg of your tour or directly back to Munich.

— DAY 5 OPTIONAL DRIVE —

LEG 2 - GERMAN ALPINE ROAD & NEUSCHWANSTEIN CASTLE

After enjoying the genuine Tyrolean hospitality at Seefeld you have again the choice:

A — the iconic Hahntennjoch Pass literally carved into the rock with constantly changing scenery  (Jun-Oct)

B — the scenic but sometimes busy Fern Pass for short direct connection between Bavaria and Tyrol (all year)

Towards the end of both passes you will cross the border into Bavaria in Germany and pick up the second part of the German High Alpine Road dotted with palaces that Bavaria's last and very eccentric king Ludwig II left behind.

Visit two of his most iconic palaces including Neuschwanstein Castle. Even Disney's Cinderella castle was modelled after the romantic 19th-century Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill.

After your visit the last  bit of this tour will take you once again onto the good old German Autobahn back to Munich. You can make further plans for the evening, while we pick up the car from your hotel.
